09 Dec Visit the World Book Capital
Probably, during the last few months, you have seen that Guadalajara is “World Book Capital” but what does it mean?
“World Book Capital” is a recognition granted by UNESCO to cities that have demonstrated a constant commitment to encouraging reading and promoting books. Guadalajara won by presenting a plan that focused on the book as a concept to promote social change, combat violence and build a culture of peace.
And it has proven it for more than 36 years carrying out the beloved FIL, but the story is longer, since the conditions to be able to win this recognition consist of carrying out a proposal of activities during the year as World Capital (April 23, 2022 – April 22, 2023) and that these demonstrate a benefit to society.
Thanks to this, if you are a reading lover and visit Guadalajara, you will find activities related to this recognition in various sites and venues worth visiting such as: MUSA, Conjunto Santander, Chapultepec, Paseo Alcalde, LARVA, Biblioteca Octavio Paz, Librería Carlos Fuentes, Museum of Paleontology, etc.
In addition, you can approach reading from other expressions, such as theater in the form of dramatic readings, “For certain” talks about historical books, reading of murals through interactive tours, audiovisual presentations, street walks of storytelling and poetry, workshops for children, talks, comics, reading in parks and more. Check schedules, dates and details, on the official Guadalajara website read: www.gdlee.mx
